My Therapeutic Approach:

  • If you feel as though you are a stranger to your own life, are plagued by depression or anxiety whose source may be difficult to pinpoint, or feel that there is an emptiness to your career, schooling, spiritual life, or relationships, there is always a path toward self-knowledge and renewal. So many of us grapple with the effects of an inauthentic life—a life in which our souls are wearing ill-fitting clothes—and instead of providing ourselves with proper care, we tug on that costume day after day and continue to perform even as our true selves wither from within. This is not a sustainable way of life, nor does it allow us to reach our full potential.

  • In an effort to help you reach that potential, I employ a blend of approaches or perspectives, tailored to your unique needs and goals for therapy: the Jungian or psychoanalytic approach, in which we explore what’s happening beneath the surface of our external choices or conditions, including dream work when applicable; the cognitive approach, in which we identify and examine troublesome thinking patterns that may be self-defeating; and a body-mindfulness approach in which we address how your body might be processing psychological distress and what we might do to help restore balance. I can also explore with you the healing potential in art or narrative therapy. Whether you are here for depression, anxiety, midlife struggles, or career counseling, I am a firm believer in the old adage “know thyself,” and I am invested in helping you to live an authentic life that begins with deeper self-comprehension.

  • Beginning therapy can be intimidating, but I am committed to providing you with a welcoming space in which to speak freely, be fully yourself, and feel truly valued as an individual. Please reach out with any questions for a free phone consultation to help you feel more comfortable before scheduling a session. I look forward to hearing from you!

Elizabeth completed her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lincoln Memorial University, as well as the two-year Jungian Studies Program for artists, educators and counselors at the CG Jung Institute of Chicago. She has studied personality psychology and is certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.  Elizabeth is currently a Fellow in the two-year Jungian Psychotherapy Program for Clinicians at the Jung Institute, where she continues her studies in somatic work, typology, dream analysis, and trauma treatment from a depth psychology perspective. As a result of her own experience with autoimmune disease, Elizabeth is passionate about attending to the body as well as the soul. Prior to entering the mental health field, she earned an MFA in Fiction Writing, and since 2010 has worked to assist writers in their journey toward full creative expression. Elizabeth enjoys working with individuals, particularly with matters of spirituality, midlife concerns, career dissatisfaction, psychosomatic illness, depression, and anxiety.
