Nature and Art Mindfulness Class Series
Our art therapist, Suzie Newman, will be running a Nature and Art mindfulness class series through the Hoffman Estates Park District this September and October! If you are interested in art, creativity, learning, mindfulness, nature and/or fun, check it out! All classes will be at the Hoffman Estates Park District located at 1685 W Higgins Rd, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169. Classes are open to individuals 16 and older and there is no previous art experience necessary! Smart Phone Nature Photography
When: Saturday, September 7th, 9:00am-11:00am

Discover photography techniques for capturing natures beauty with your phone. This class will go over the basics of photography, composition, phone photography, and editing apps. Bring your smartphone and wear shoes that are comfortable for walking. If it is raining, the class will be cancelled and rescheduled for the following Saturday at the same time.
Fall Leaves- Colored Pencils
When: Friday, September 13th, 5:30pm-7:30pm

This class will focus on capture color, form, and detail of a variety of fall leaves using colored pencils. Learn to observes leaves and depict them to scale on paper, enhancing your ability to see and appreciate details. All materials are provided.
Botanical Watercolor Painting
When: Friday, September 20, 5:30pm-7:30pm

Introduction to using watercolors to depict botanical forms, such as plants and flowers, and a brief history of botanical art. Learn the basic steps for creating traditional botanical paintings, from drawing to watercolor. All materials are provided.
Nature Art
When: Saturday, September 28th, 10:00am-12:00pm

Come on a mindfulness walk, collecting nature materials, and make art with the nature materials you collect. You will incorporate and transform objects such as leaves, rocks, grass, twigs, and more into originals prints, sculptures and paintings. All materials will be provided or collected. Please where shoes that are comfortable for waking. In the event of poor weather, the workshop will still take place. We will skill the walk and the class will be provided with an array of found nature materials to use.
Feathers in Focus- Graphite
When: Friday, October 4th, 5:30pm-7:30pm

This unique class will give you access to a large feather collection. From feathers of owls to eagles, you will choose the feather of your choice to draw. This class will explore line, shape, form, shading, and perspective using drawing pencils. Train your eye to see details by learning feather identification and observational drawing techniques. All materials are provided.
Pumpkins and Gourds- Pastels
When: Friday, October 11th, 5:30pm-7:30pm

Capturing the beautiful details of two classic fall harvests. Through observation you will notice color, form, and texture, and create a realistic drawing with your choice of either oil or soft pastels. This class will explore pastel application and observational drawing techniques. All materials provided.
